I think its a good idea for libraries to get involved on social networking sites because then they are more connected to the public and can get more people into the library by promoting themselves.
I think it's about time that libraries have a complete overhaul in the social networking area by creating a new role such as Social Media Librarian: Facebook and Twitter being now a mainstream in businesses.Have a look at social media and it can tell you everything about a business, a book, a play...

ReplyDeleteLibrarians do get involved with social networking in many ways and there are many websites that discuss libraries getting involved with social media. Take this blog for example:http://librariandesignshare.org/tag/bookmarks/ which has some good blogs. At the end of the blog are icons for twitter, facebook, pinterest and more (email, google. tumblr and reddit). Academic libraries use them too:
